Apraku calls for strong trade ties between and Ghana and Burkina Faso

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA- Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Minister of Regional Co-operation and NEPAD has called on the Burkinabe Trade, Commerce and Transport Unions to establish positive rapport with their Ghanaian counterparts to enhance trade and investment between the two countries. He expressed concern about the level of trade between the two countries, and asked both countries to increase trade ties to ensure economic growth in the Sub-Region.

A Statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by Mr Ahmed Osumanu, Acting Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, said Dr Apraku was addressing technical experts from both countries in Ouagadougou as part of his three-day visit to Burkina Faso.

He gave the assurance that all unauthorised checkpoints would be removed to enhance smooth trading activities.

It said Dr Apraku also held discussion with the Burkinabe President Blaise Compaore who expressed appreciation for the co-operation between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

President Compaore pledged the commitment of leaders within the Sub-Region to sustain peace and stability and commended the efforts of ECOWAS Chairman President John Agyekum Kufuor for his efforts in ensuring peace and stability in the area.

Dr Apraku said the bilateral relations between both countries would be strengthened for the benefit of their people.
