The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)-Ghana has held an induction ceremony to award membership certificates to newly qualified members.
The induction event, held under the theme: “The professional accountant as a change leader: trends and perspective,” witnessed about 400 newly qualified chartered accountants given membership certificates.
The Association also presented awards to some members for their outstanding performances in their field of work. Prominent among them is the Dean of University of Ghana Business School, Professor Joshua Yindenaba Abor.
Deputy Auditor General, George Swansy Winful, speaking as the guest of honour, entreated the inductees to be inspired to direct their energy towards nation building.
“Being inducted into the organisation is not an accomplishment but just the beginning. The mandate is on you now to exhibit real knowledge or relevance in your field of work.
“Leadership is not only required from elected public officers or politicians but also from everybody in public services as well as any professional. The responsibility of sanity lies with all entrusted with power,” he said.
He further encouraged the newly inducted members to lead the fight against corruption by leveraging Information Technology (IT) to ensure efficiency.
He said the recent collapse of some banks in the country was partly due to some accountants and internal auditors not performing their duties.
The Chairman of ACCA Network, Ghana, Michael Nyarko, challenged the new members to apply the rules and regulations of the profession in order to become relevant and successful in the global market place.
“The role of accountants is very key to the development of every nation. Accountants use to lead in development of the public sector and with new trends and perspectives, we have to do more and adopt new ways of curbing complications,” he said.
He further reiterated that ACCA, will continue to provide professional courses and development programmes for its members, especially in the digital technology skills development sector, in order to continue to stay relevant in the global market.
In attendance were ACCA members, families and friends of inductees, executives and invited guests from other professional bodies.
The Deputy Auditor General, also called on Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) to renounce the certificates or licenses of some accountants and auditing firms found culpable of negligence, in order to maintain sanity in the industry.
