The Asutifi North District Assembly (ANDA) in the Brong Ahafo Region has been commended for exceeding its internal revenue generation target for the year.

The assembly, as of 31st August, 2016, had mobilized an amount of Three Hundred and Fifty-Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety-Seven Ghana Cedis, Eighty Ghana Pesewas (GH¢357,497.80) as against an annual estimate of Two Hundred and Sixty-Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty-Two Ghana Cedis (GH¢267,442.00).

This according to the assembly is as a result of management`s introduction of new initiatives, discussions and negotiations with Sub-Contractors of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited on the payment of operational fees and other obligations to the Assembly.

This was disclosed by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Eric Addae on Monday at the second ordinary meeting of the second session of the sixth assembly held in Kenyasi.

It was attended by Heads of Department, Traditional Authorities, Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil society and a section of the public.

He noted the general election was around the corner and the heat gathering momentum and therefore entreated all political parties and candidates to be modest in their utterances during campaigns to safeguard the peace and security being enjoyed in the District.

He maintained that as politicians, they agree and disagree on myriad of topical issues but that should not degenerate into violence and advised they shun politics of insults and attacks on personalities and rather focus on issues that will bring development to the people.

Mr. Addae warned the long arm of the law will drastically deal with any one or group of persons or thugs who indulge in nefarious activities before, during and after the election.

On peace and security, Hon. Addae lamented the upsurge in cases of theft and agitations by disgruntled workers of Geodril Ghana Limited and Mantrac Company whose contracts were terminated for staging a demonstration against management of the companies.

“Even though, District Security Committee (DISEC) swiftly responded to the issues. I instructed the security agencies to flash out unscrupulous residents who have established a “wee” base at Jericho where most of the youth who are into drugs dwell and engage in all forms of crimes,’ he said.

The DCE highlighting his achievements in education said, the Assembly will continue with its support to brilliant but needy students at various levels of the academic ladder, provision of physical infrastructure, motivation packages for teachers as well as teaching and learning materials.

“Last year alone, the Assembly’s decision to provide bursaries for the first one hundred (100) indigenous Day Students of Gyamfi Kumanini Senior High and Technical School (SHTS) for 2015/2016 academic year did not only boost enrolment in the school, but also reduced the burden on parents. So for the 2016/2017 academic year, we are considering 150 students from the Gyamfi Kumanini SHTS to benefit from the facility,” he explained.

On decentralization and good governance, Hon. Addae noted some revenue items have been ceded to the Town/Area Councils to make them effective and sustained operations.

The Presiding Member (PM), Nana Owusu Boadu A in his welcome address tasked members to discharge their duties with professionalism to justify the confidence repose in them.
