Major equities made strong gains during brisk trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) today, but volume was on the low side. Block sales which characterised trading last week were absent even though demand was still high. The GSE All-Share Index inched up by 0.08 points to finish mid- week trading at 452.30 points as against the 452.22 points registered during trading on Monday. Volume of shares traded to 40,390, from the previous 39,110 shares. Bids put in by investors rose to 11.8 million, with high interest in the shares of Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL), Pioneer Tobacco Company (PTC), Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) and Kumasi Brewery Limited (KBL). Offers were pegged at 640,400. On Monday, bids stood at 7.7 million while offers were 515,210 Market capiatlisation appreciated to 2,801.70 billion cedis from 2,770.01 billion cedis. On the broader market, manufacturing, industrial, insurance and banking equities sustained their opening gains of the week making more gains. There were seven appreciations and one loser. Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) continued its gaining streak going up 300 cedis to close at 20,300 cedis. Mobil Oil Ghana Limited (MOGL) closed 100 cedis better at 6,200 cedis Enterprise Insurance Company (EIC) made 30 cedis to end at 620 cedis, Fan Milk Limited (FML) gained 20 cedis to close 450 cedis and GGL was 17 cedis richer to end at 460 cedis. SCB and PTC gained 10 cedis and two cedis to finish at 7,130 cedis and 380 cedis respectively. Social Security Bank (SSB) sold the most shares of 11,900 shares with Aluworks Company Limited second, selling 9,400 shares. Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) was the only losing equity dropping by 25 cedis to close at 685 cedis. GCB sold only 3,700 of the 67,600 shares offered.
