The Australian Government in partnership with Ghana’s Public Sector Commission and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has started the implementation of a two-year public sector governance support programme.

Aimed at supporting public sector performance, the programme will also focus on improving human resource management in the country.

Mr Walter Kudzodzi, a Public Affairs Officer who made this known in a statement issued on Monday, said the programme is being funded by the Australian Agency for International Development with the involvement of the Australian Public Service Commission.

The statement said over the next two years, the Australia-Ghana partnership will include the deployment of Australian volunteers to work in government agencies in Ghana while Ghanaian public officials will also go on secondments in Australia.

It said strategic dialogues would also be held in Australia and the partnership would provide public sector human resource and leadership skills training.

The statement said, in addition, it would provide technical experts to work with the leadership of the Ghanaian public service.

It said the programme is also aligned to the Ghanaian government’s approach to public sector reform and ultimately aims at improving service delivery to the public.

The statement said a team of Australian Public Service Commission is already in Accra working with the Ghana’s Public Services Commission and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

It said the team includes Dr David Schmidtchen, a Senior Executive responsible for Research and Evaluation in the Australian Public Sector Commission.
