BGL takes delivery of mine rescue equipment

Prestea (W/R), June 25, GNA - The Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) has taken delivery of Drager BG4, a self-contained breathing apparatus worth $100,000 to enhance its underground mining operations at Prestea. The equipment to strengthen the safety unit of the mine, would be used during rescue operations Mr Neil Stevenson, Operations Manager of the company told newsmen at Prestea on Friday. He said the company would acquire five more of the similar equipment next year to beef up the stock.

Mr Stephenson said every mining company had to live up to the required safety standards and it behoved the mine to ensure that the required principles were maintained. The newsmen were also taken to Level 17 of the Prestea underground mine to see the progress of work there.

Mr Stevenson told the newsmen that the installation of recently acquired bigger pumps at level 17 was an indication that the underground mine would not be abandoned. He said the lifespan of a mine would cease if the was no further exploration alongside the mining operations, adding, "I believe the mine has a future and therefore we have to ensure that the underground is safe".

Mr Sam Agyeman, Prestea Underground Mine Manager, gave the assurance that two years of underground exploration had confirmed that there was enough deposit of ore.
