BGL to expend C370m on its Poultry Project

Prestea (W/R), May 03, GNA - Bogoso Gold Ltd (BGL) has earmarked 370 million cedis for its poultry project this year to be carried out in three phases covering purchase of birds, feed and making of hencoops, medication and veterinary services.

Mr Zacharia Issah, Senior Sustainable Livelihood Officer who was briefing the media at BGL's demonstration farm at Brumase near Prestea, said last year the company started with 12 hencoops with 24 beneficiaries from 12 communities.

Mr Issah said, this year, groups made up of two each from other catchments communities have been taken on board to expand the project. These are Kwame Niampa, Prestea, Aketsewa, Anfegya, Bepo and Brakwaline.

Mr Issah said the performance of the first batch of beneficiaries was not bad saying with exception of two the rest were appreciable. About 210 million cedis were spent on the pilot project, which started from October to December 2005 and 24 people from 10 catchments communities benefited.
