BOST workers deny demanding boss dismissal

Workers of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) have denied demanding the removal of their Managing Director, George Mensah Okley, as contained in a statement making rounds on social media.

A reaction from the senior staff and the local unions on Monday, September 10 indicated that the workers have no idea about the statement.

“The senior staff and the Local Unions of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited wish to state in no uncertain terms that, we know nothing about a supposed statement with the above title from the workers of BOST”

The workers have accordingly disassociated themselves from the statement, reiterating they have never called for and have no intentions of calling for the dismissal of their boss.

“The Unions of BOST wish to disassociate itself from the supposed statement on various social media platforms. The unions of BOST have not called and have no intention of calling for the removal of the Acting BOST Board Chairman,” the statement reads.

It is immediately not clear what may have prompted calls for the resignation of Mr. Okley, but he was in the past few weeks accused of making some $3 million payment to Springfield Energy, which many including Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency, Edward Bawa, described as unlawful.

Mr. Bawa had demanded that both Mr. Okley and his deputy, John Kojo Ankofu, be sanctioned for the act.

But Mr. Okley, in a statement later, refuted claims of any misappropriation explaining the money paid to Springfield was money due the company as a result of a court ruling in favour of Springfield.
