Baah Wiredu Advice Businessmen

Kumasi, May 25, GNA- Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, has asked Ghanaian entrepreneurs to build a sound record base in order to be effective and efficient in the current Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) world.

"Records... provide the data from which information can be obtained and used to the advantage of business, especially, in this highly competitive business world", he said.

Mr Baah-Wiredu made the call in an address read on his behalf at the opening of a three-day workshop on Records Keeping, for 50 artisans at the Suame Magazine in Kumasi on Wednesday.

It was organised by the Unilever Ghana Foundation for Education and Development (UGFED) with personnel from the Central University College, as facilitators.

The Finance Minister noted that the latent potentials of entrepreneurs at Suame Magazine, could be easily exploited to propel Ghana into a middle-income economy when the artisans get more serious and kept proper records.

He said Government would be happy to see this happen as it was one of the ways by which "we can create artisans who can compete with their counterparts in China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and others".

Mr Baah-Wiredu lauded the UGFED for its capacity building support for small-scale businesses, a role, he said, was now more significant than ever, because, it was consistent with the objectives of the Kufuor Administration to develop the country's human resources and the private sector.

He appealed to UGFED to consider organising a workshop on ICT for the artisans as a follow up to the Records Keeping training session. 25 May 05
