An eleven-member delegation from the Bangladeshi Export Promotion Bureau has paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry in an effort to explore means of boosting cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation is expected to visit Senegal, Ghana, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire, to explore business opportunities in those countries.
Mr. Shubhashish Bose, Vice Chairman, Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, noted that the delegation selected Ghana as part of countries it wanted to do business with due to its stability and its investment friendly climate.
He said Bangladesh had recognized the trading potentials of the African Continent and wanted to expand its trading partners on the continent.
He noted that although Bangladesh was one of the least developed countries of the world, it was often seen as the gateway to Asia due to its strategic location on the continent.
Mr. Bose said Bangladesh was considered as the second largest exporter of garments, leather and knitwear and she currently exports about 18 billion worth of goods to the United States alone, which represented about 23 per cent of its total exports.
“We would call on Ghana to take advantage of all that we produce in Bangladesh to boost cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
Mr. Bose said due to the country’s buoyant pharmaceutical sector, it manufactures about 97 per cent of all medicines used in the country.
“We can also manufacture drugs for countries which need our help based on their requirements or prescriptions,” he said.
He said the country had flexible policies concerning trade and urged Ghana to consider doing more business with Bangladesh.
He urged the Chamber of Commerce to take advantage of the numerous trade fairs organized in the country by taking part in them in order to sell Ghana to the outside world.
Mr. Prosper Adabla, 1st Vice President, Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, lauded the delegation for its decision to do more business with Ghana and called on them to establish a consulate in the country to foster it.
“We hope you will do well to establish a consulate here as it would go a long way to foster smooth trade between Ghana and Bangladesh”.
He said the Chamber would work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on how Ghana could also establish a consulate in Bangladesh.
He expressed Ghana's is desire to do business with any country willing to include her on its trade list.**
