Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - The Government has moved closer towards helping to enhance the performance of local Ghanaian road contractors as it hammered out final details of a loan contract agreement with the German BHF Bank for the supply of road construction equipment to them.

A delegation of the Bank led by its Regional Manager for Ghana, Madam Ursula Hmmekke, that is in the country to finalise the agreement, on Tuesday called on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Osu Castle. President Kufuor said the Government wanted to help Ghanaian contractors not only to perform but also to be effective partners of their foreign counterparts.

This could, however, not be achieved if they lacked modern equipment and had to operate with obsolete machinery, he noted. President Kufuor described the facility as an opportunity and advised those who would benefit from it to endeavour to meet the repayment schedule.

A delegation of United States Congressional staff led by Mr Matthew MacLean, currently in the country to help Ghana finalise the detailed report of her proposal of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), called on President Kufuor at Castle to discuss the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Compact.

President Kufuor said his government was working to secure the compact and that Ghana was ready to access the account. The intervention, he said, would greatly help to support and modernise the country's agriculture.

Mr Maclean told the President that the delegation had already been to Armenia and from Ghana they would be heading to Benin.
