Accra, Nov. 7, GNA - Barclays Bank Treasury has pledged to sustain its support for the Street Academy, a non-governmental organisation, to enable it to continue contributing to the development of vulnerable children in the Greater Accra Region. The Bank as part of it's social responsibility code named 'Make a Difference Day', was rehabilitating the structures of including the school of the NGO, to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere for children.
Mr. Simon Dornoo, Country Treasurer of Barclays Bank, announced these to journalist after staff of the Bank undertook a clean-up exercise and painted the school building of the NGO, in Accra. He said the Bank has entered into development partnership with the Street Academy and has within the past eight years spent about 200,000 Ghana cedis on the provision of windows, desks, sealing and roofing for the school building to enhance teaching and learning for the displaced children. Mr. Dornoo said the Bank was determined to support and invest in the development of children, especially those on and off the streets fending for themselves. He said that Barclays Bank Treasury considered children as future employees and leaders whose developmental needs should not be the concern of government alone but also of parents, society and the corporate world.
Mr. Dornoo said "as a business entity, we believe in activities and goals of the Street Academy to support the vulnerable in the society". He said the Bank would do everything possible to support the NGO to enable it to work harder to bring solace to children and their communities by providing them with an enabling environment for development. Nene Ataa Lartey, Director of Street Academy, commended the Bank for supporting the NGO and that the children and staff of the school would be grateful for the Bank. He said the partnership between the Bank and the NGO has enabled the school to offer non-formal, cultural and sporting training for children, especially those on and off the streets in the Greater Accra Region.
