Banking in Ghana takes a big step into the future with the introduction by Barclays Bank on 2 September 2002, of a day and night telephone banking service in its branches throughout the country.
This convenient, timesaving service will enable customers to have instant access to their account at virtually any time by simple calling the Barclays telephone banking line.
The services available by phone include:Check on the balance of current or savings account Confirmation of payments into and out of the account Transfer of funds between accounts for first party only Request for interim statements Request for cheque books Rate information on saving accounts, fixed deposits and foreign currency exchange.
Said Barclays Ghana MD Kobina Quansah: "Telephone banking is fast and convenient, without the hassles of driving to the branch, finding parking and then standing in a queue. And on a day and night basis it means the customer is in total control of his or her finances at all times".
He added that the service was totally confidential and secure, with access to accounts only available through a customer's own personal identification number.
"A major appeal of our service is there are no complicated procedures," Quansah said. "All you do is phone the Barclays telephone banking line and have your account number and branch code handy. Then fellow the easy instructions using your telephone's keypad. It is excellent yet simple technology."
