Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah is encouraging Ghanaians to show keen interest in the patronage of made-in-Ghana goods.
Speaking on the theme ‘Made in Ghana, Globally Accepted’, at the official opening of the 23rd Ghana International Trade Fair, Mr. Ahenkorah said his outfit intends to promote Domestic Trade to stir up Ghanaians interest in goods made up in Ghana.
“It is our intention as a Ministry to promote our domestic trade environment which will ensure some kind of interest in goods made in Ghana. If we in Ghana do not accept goods made in Ghana, then it stands to reason up that people who are outside the shores of our country would also not have any interest in that. So once we say charity begins at home, we are doing everything possible to expand the domestic trade environment to ensure that people build some interest in goods made in Ghana”, he stated.
Mr Ahenkora added that, there would be more fairs to exhibit made-in-Ghana goods for both Ghanaians and the world at large to see the products crafted and made by the locals.
He said: “Of course, it is a known fact that when you indulge in fairs, that’s the only time that people will get to know what is produced in the country. People from Ghana, people from the outside and even large companies here in Ghana that seek to source their raw materials for small scale industries locally.”
He further indicated that the Ministry is coming up with a portal which would have all large scale enterprises in Ghana to drive the industrial transformation agenda the ministry is undertaking.
On his part, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Trade Fair, Dr Agnes Adu noted that, products made by locals are of quality, and meets world class standard hence, urging Ghanaians and foreigners to patronize these products.
She said, “We make quality world class products right here in Ghana and exhibitions like this, the Ghana International Trade Fair help promote and showcase the products both locally and internationally and this is a great opportunity for people to see what is made in Ghana and to encourage our own Ghanaians to patronage made in Ghana goods and services”
In line with the theme for this year’s exhibition, the Ghana Trade Fair in partnership with Zumershop.com is providing an online presence for the about 600 exhibitors for global exposure.
