The Biakoye District Assembly has failed to meet its revenue target of GH¢40,572.00 for the first quarter of this year, 2017.

Alhaji Zaidu Tamimu, the District Coordinating Director who disclosed this at the Assembly’s Fifth Ordinary General Meeting said the Assembly generated only GH¢20,282.00, half of the estimated revenue target.

He said the shortfall was due to non-functional substructures of the Assembly, for which reason staff were unable to mobilise revenue for the development of the Assembly.

Alhaji Tamimu said the conflict between Nkonya and Alavanyo was further stretching the meagre revenue of the Assembly.

“As an Assembly, we spend a lot on the maintenance of peace and order. We can’t even quantify because some are unexpected costs,” he said.

The Director said measures were however being put in place to improve the Assembly’s finances and appealed for peace in the area to attract development projects.

He later inaugurated a technical team for the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs Campaign in the District’.

Mr Apepe Amakwata, District Director of Agriculture, said the Volta Region had opted to plant maize, rice and vegetable for starters.

He said already 206 farmers in the District had registered to receive “heavily subsidized fertilizers, improved seeds” and other services.
