Birim South Health Insurance pays 837 million cedis

Akyem Oda, (E/R), May 29, GNA - The Birim South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has paid 837 million cedis premium to service providers on behalf of premium holders, who attended hospital within the past 10 months.

Mr Charles Darkwa, the Scheme Manager, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the highest amount of five million cedis was paid on behalf of an accident victim this year, for undergoing treatment at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Koforidua. He said 19,401 out of a total registered number of 32,460 were benefiting from the scheme with the rest whose pictures were currently being taken to start accessing benefits by August. Mr Darkwa said the registered figure would go up after all the returns from the communities were received.

He said the district office had at the moment embarked on an extensive education drive in the churches and the communities to sensitise more people on the need to join the scheme. The scheme manager said registration had not closed entirely and urged those, who had not registered for the scheme to do so to be able to access quality health care.
