The recent impasse in Ghana's parliament, characterised by indefinite adjournments and disputes over vacant seats, has created significant governance challenges that could lead to a de facto government shutdown if unresolved.

With just two weeks to go until the December 7, 2024 general elections, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has yet to deliver the Appropriation Budget before the House. This budget is required to allocate spending for the government and is critical for continuity.

To discuss these developments on GhanaWeb TV’s BizTech, Deputy Country Director of SEND Ghana, Alhaji Mumuni Mohammed, stated that the situation could have severe economic repercussions that could jeopardise Ghana's fiscal stability and its ability to meet domestic and international economic obligations.

He argued that the impasse could also disrupt funding for public sector salaries and vital government operations, impacting public confidence in the next government.

Alhaji Mumuni Mohammed emphasised the importance of political negotiation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government to tackle the impasse and reach a compromise.

This week's edition of BizTech was hosted by Mawuli Ahorlumegah.
