Cybercrime has become a profitable business, with criminals exploiting the vulnerabilities of people and businesses.

Online scams, digital extortion, ransomware, and cloud vulnerabilities are among the common types of cybercrime affecting Africans. The surge in cybercrime has become a major threat globally.

Research has shown that Africa experienced an average of 2,372 cyberattacks per week in early 2024, representing a 20 percent increase from the previous year.

In Ghana, over GH¢2 million was lost to online fraud between January and March 2024. During the same period, the Cyber Security Authority received 194 cases of online fraud, for a total loss of about GH¢2,404,161.

He made this known at the 2024 Regional Cyber Drill for Africa in Accra, which was covered by the host of BizTech, Ernestina Serwaa Asante.
