The Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority (BPA), Fred Oware, has described the Bui Power Project as one of the laudable projects the erstwhile Kufuor administration initiated.
He noted that contrary to what critics say about the Bui Power Project, it has lived up to the expectation for which it was established.
"We have never had a shutdown and there is nothing like break down of any equipment for the past five years.
"We continue to generate electricity. We have been very useful at peak period as well as anytime there has been any shutdown in any of the other plants. We have been called in to make good whenever power is lost in the system," Mr Oware stated.
The Bui Power Dam, which was started under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, in 2007, and completed in 2013, has an installed capacity of 400 MW and is connected to the national grid.
Speaking in an interview during a two-day workshop organised by BPA to explain its operations to the media, Mr Fred Oware also spoke about the autho-energy plan on renewable energy.
He said the Ministry of Energy has given approval for the authority to actively pursue renewable energy generation.
He said the authority is hopeful that it would be able to complete some of the projects it intends embarking on and add solar energy unto the national grid.
