Bui to augment national grid with 260MW

The Bui Power Generating Station in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region is expected to augment its capacity by adding 260 megawatts of its 400 installed megawatts.

This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Salifu Wumbilla during a press tour of Bui Power Authority.

The visit was to assess the facility’s performance in the wake of water level shortages that hit it.

He said “base on this year’s energy demand, what Bui power authority has agreed with the systems control centre is that during the peak hours we produce 250MW of power but at the instances at the request of the system’s control centre we able to produce more than what we are currently doing.”

“Our water level is around 173.90 and our maximum level is 183 meters above sea level. So the amount of power we are currently producing now is based on a generation plant that was prepared between Bui power authority in consultation with the systems control centre.”

Ghana is currently undergoing a load shedding exercise due to a shortfall in the power generated by the nation’s power producers.

The Akosombo dam which is the mainstay of Ghana’s power supply has been faced with inadequate water supply hence forcing the plant to shut some of its units.

Other power plants that have been brought on board are yet to meet the generation targets for the country.
