CEPS personnel at Aflao mobilised 375.51 billion cedis in revenue

Aflao, Jan. 21, GNA - Personnel at the Aflao Collection of Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) mobilised 375.51 billion cedis in revenue last year, exceeding their revenue target of 88.66 billion cedis.

Within the same period they seized 52,490 pieces of wax prints allegedly smuggled into the country from Togo. Their areas of operation are Havi, Akanu, Kpoglu and Aflao duty posts and Dabala preventive operational duty point.

Mr Emmanuel Impraim, Chief Collector in-charge of the sector, announced this at their annual awards and dinner night held at Aflao at the weekend.

He reminded the personnel that 2007 would be challenging, being a jubilee year and the prospect of having to work hard to achieve much higher target hence the need to brace themselves up. "If we control activities of smugglers and block all avenues of revenue leakages we would achieve our target," Mr Impraim said. He appealed to CEPS authorities to improve on their logistics and connect electricity to other duty posts including Akanu and Kpoglu to ensure that GCNET and GCMS operational facilities could be installed for effective and efficient performance.

Mr Impraim called for the recruitment of more personnel for effective patrol at the beach and pillars.

He announced that preventive patrol boats had been acquired for operations on the Volta Lake between Sogakope and Ada.

Mr Impraim commended Government for the efforts to improve on the provision of logistics to face-lift the border area including plans to complete the multi-billion cedis border complex abandoned some years ago.
