Shola Safo-Duodu, President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG), has disclosed that talks with the Ministry of Education are at an advanced stage for the enactment of a Legislative Instrument (LI) to back its local courses in Ghana.

A curriculum has been put together and it is in the process of being fine-tuned towards the implementation of the local examination, she said. Mrs. Safo-Duodu, who made this known at the 9th investiture of its executives in Accra, said talks are underway between the Institute and the University of Professional Studies (UPS) for monitoring and accreditation in that regard.

She said the institute has collaborated with marketing institutions of international repute to enable its members participate in various seminars.

The CIMG National President said “at the same time, the institute is pursuing other avenues like getting an LI to back the local courses that will be offered. Not long ago, a team of past presidents and some council members had very useful discussions with the Minster of Education, who promised to help the CIMG peruse this line of action.”

Mrs. Safo-Duodu however urged the new executives of the Institute to relentlessly pursue the goal of the institute, adding that it was important to develop a home-grown marketing qualification that critically focuses attention on the many marketing problems they face locally.

This could be achieved by looking back to see where the institute has, in the last two years, not done too well and make the necessary amends, she noted.
