Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has disclosed that the newly launched COVID-19 Tracker App has so far generated some 16,000 downloads on Android.
According to her, the application has already received some 100 reports on symptoms of Coronavirus from individuals and will pass that information to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to follow up on.
Speaking at the Minister’s press briefing in Accra on April 14, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said; “As at this morning, I can report that there have been 16,000 downloads already even though it’s just the weblink on Android and the reports on it so far are quite interesting”
“About 100 people have reported symptoms which are likely to be coronavirus related so we will pass on that information to the Ghana Health Service,” she added.
Vice President, Dr. Bawumia on April 13, launched the Ghana COVID-19 Tracker Application that will allow individuals to self-report symptoms without needing to visit a healthcare facility and thereby aiding in social distancing.
Accessible as a browser-based app, the COVID-19 Tracker will also aid in the tracking of individuals who attend the same function as part of measures towards the enhanced contact tracing exercise to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
