The National Labour Commission has instructed members of the Public Services Workers’ Union at the National Identification Authority to suspend their ongoing strike action with immediate effect.

The directive was issued after a meeting held on Thursday, May 14, involving the Commission, leaders of the union, management of the NIA and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission over concerns relating to delays in implementing migration arrangements linked to the workers’ conditions of service.

In a statement dated May 14, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has been tasked to ensure the approval and execution of the migration report for NIA staff before the end of May 2026.

The National Labour Commission further directed the striking workers to return to work while discussions continue to resolve the matter.

According to the statement, the case has been postponed to June 4, 2026, when the parties are expected to report on progress made regarding the implementation process.

The industrial action by NIA workers had disrupted operations at several registration centres across the country, raising concerns among citizens seeking identification services.
