Cassava farmers at Ayensu Starch Company Limited (ASCO) catchment area, have applauded the President, Mr. J.A. Kufuor and his cassava initiative project for the immense contributions it has made to their economic well-being.
The farmers noted that since its inception, the project has helped to give them insight into cassava farming, especially with certain techniques in their occupation.
Chairman of the Ayensu Cassava Starch Association (ACFA), Mr. Samuel Dodd, made the observation in an interview with the paper at Awutu-Bawjiase.
He said “many Ghanaians, including ourselves, were those who thought the ASCO project, the first product of the PSI on cassava, will be a nine days’ wonder particularly given the inadequacy of resources to develop it into a full-fledged status.
It was our maiden experience with such a facility and so we kept doubting whether it would survive.
Little did we know that it was in for our economic improvement and poverty reduction.
Now, we can confidently affirm that it has transformed our thinking pattern on cassava production.
Formerly, most of our people never knew how to cultivate about 4,000 sticks of cassava on an acre of land but with the advent of this cassava project, our eyes have been opened” Mr. Dodd remarked.
