Caterers urged to be innovative to meet standards

Tema, April 17, GNA - Mrs Esther Amoah, President of the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA), on Saturday urged caterers to introduce innovations into their operations to enable them to compete on both the local and international markets.

She said the 21st century job market demanded training that laid emphasis on skills acquisition, science and technology among other factors to progress speedily.

She was the guest of honour at the 11th graduation of 12 students of the Carol's Catering Services at Tema.

To achieve high standards and promote employable skills among young caterers to enable them to establish their businesses, Mrs Amoah implored catering institutions to consider including topics such as good grooming, hygiene, food safety and human relations in their syllabus. She entreated young caterers to be guided by the principles of good human relations, hard work, perseverance, courage, discipline, dedication, devotion to duty and time consciousness to attract customers.

Mrs Lydia Ablorh, member of the Tema Municipal Assembly, advised the graduands to let the knowledge acquired at their training to reflect in their work so that the resources invested in them would not be in vain. She asked young women to strive in their various trades to rub shoulders with their men counterparts so that they were not left behind. Madam Caroline Addington, the Proprietress, said the institution, established eleven years ago, had since turned out 61 caterers who had been employed in various institutions.

According to her the institution, which was open to SSS, JSS graduates as well as married women offered courses in catering, English Language, Mathematics, Costing, Record Keeping and topical issues like HIV/AIDS and Family Planning.
