Central Furniture Works wins prestigious award

A Ghanaian manufacturing company based in Accra, Central Furniture works has been honored at the first edition of Ghana Made Product Awards 2013, emerging as the winner of Wood Furniture Product of the Year.

The awards ceremony celebrated the success made by some indigenous entrepreneurs in the small and medium Industries and therefore exposed their products to Ghanaians throughout the country to create awareness and build customer loyalty for the high quality products that could meet the challenges of domestic and International markets.

As part of his social obligations towards education and raising young entrepreneurs in Ghana, Managing Proprietor of Central Furniture Works, Alhaji Mustapha Mahama, has renewed his outfit’s commitment to support the Ghanaian youth through apprenticeship in the manufacturing industry. Everyone at Central Furniture works is delighted at this recognition through the award as it endorses our approach of using the power of business to achieve social, environmental and profitable financial returns.

Having global recognition will help strengthen our engagement with others and create interest in Ghana and more widely in West Africa about socially inclusive business. It will encourage other enterprises to realize that they can make profit and work in a more responsible and inclusive way, he said. He however disclosed that One Thousand, Six-Hundred and Two young Ghanaians, have emerged as company owners through apprenticeship at Central furniture works since the establishment of the company.

He said schools that have benefited from the company include Amedzofe Technical Institutes, Paul Technical Institute, and intends to donate more furniture in 2014 to schools that need government assistance.

Central Furniture Works, established in 1971 as a Sole Proprietorship started with the manufacturing of wooden furniture for the domestic market, the company has evolved to become one of the most important manufacturers of all types of furniture in finished and knocked down form for both the local and international markets.

He noted that the company has two showroom outlets both in Accra, producing high quality furniture for Government and intends to have more branches across the country. Alhaji Mahama noted that entrepreneurships is about risk taking, hence young entrepreneurs should study the market before investing into any business.

Alhaji Mahama in addition pointed out that challenges should be seen as opportunity to enhance once efficiency and not a threat to destroy once reputation. He therefore urged government to lay down appropriate measures to check foreign imports into the country.
