Accra, Aug 28, GNA - Mr Wilson Atta Krofah, the First Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, has commended the media for their immense contribution to the economic development of Ghana. Speaking at a press soiree, Mr Krofah said the Ghanaian media had performed creditably in the rapid transformation of the economy.

The Ghana Chamber of Commerce is an association of business operators, firms and industries established by an act of parliament to promote commerce and industry in Ghana.

He said the media's role in disseminating information on economic development and nation building required that the business community continued to interact with journalists to guarantee the success of government's economic policy.

He said the Chamber would continue to rely on the media to "achieve our vision of making the relevant business news and opportunities available to our member firms and the entire Ghanaian business environment".

Mr Rayborn Bulley, a Representative of the Ghana Journalists Association, appealed to media practitioners not to be carried away by the increasing political activities in the country but must focus on other important issues affecting the lives of the Ghanaian.

"Do not allow politics to dominate the airwaves but you must concentrate on issues such as the country's per capita income to redeem it from HIPC," he said.

Mr Bulley suggested that the media be periodically reminded of its developmental role so that it could stay on track.
