Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has called on the Chinese private sector to invest in productive businesses in Ghana.
He said for a long time, Ghana has been receiving more financial and technical support from China rather than private sector investments.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur made the statement when the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House.
The discussions between the two officials centered on improving the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur noted that it is now time for Ghana to look at its relationship with China in a different way.
He said Ghana must also look at other ways at which China can support the country to achieve its objective of a Better Ghana.
He said so far, many people see the Chinese private sector operating in Ghana, unfortunately, more from the illegal mining sector.
Sun Baohong, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, noted the relationship between China and Ghana dates back many years ago.
She said China is happy to see the great achievements the country has choked under the Better Ghana Agenda.
She announced that the Chinese government is making arrangements for President John Mahama to travel to China in August.
Sun Baohong also stated that, this year, a number projects being funded by the Chinese government in Ghana, including the Gas Processing plant and Vocational School would be completed.
She noted that there is a breakthrough between China and Ghana in the China Axim Development Bank (CDB) loan and as such more projects would be initiated this year.
She announced that there were about 2,800 Ghanaian students studying in China with 800 studying medicine, adding that, each year, the Chinese government would provide opportunities for Ghanaian professionals to study in China.
