Citi FM launches career fair

Accra based radio station Citi97.3FM says it is organising a career fair intended to bring together persons who want to advance their careers in different directions and institutions through which career advancements are executed.

The CitiFM "Career Destinations" will be taking place in January 2007 and according to a release from the organisers the event will be officially launched on Friday at the Busy Internet in Accra.

With partnership and professional advice from Ernst & Young, Human Resources Consultants for the event, "Career Destinations" will be a gathering of available talents already ‘screened to the exact specifications as required by participating organisations.’

According to information available from the event website, “the increasing number of graduates and persons out of school poses a serious task for recruiters in terms of the numbers they have to deal with. On one side, there are the academic institutions that offer such career advancement programmes in the form of degrees, diplomas and professional certificates. There are also companies that are interested in absorbing the products of these academic institutions. On the other side, there are job seekers with the requisite academic qualifications and experiences that will match the requirements of these companies.”

Providing more details of the fair, the website has information how the fair will benefit employers, job seekers and institutions.

Employers: In today's competitive labour market, many companies are having challenges finding the right workers and the process of recruitment and selection has also become cumbersome. Companies stand to benefit from this event by cutting down on the total recruitment costs as they move away from dealing with too many people at the onset. Selection and matching of Curriculum Vitae (CVs) will be done by Ernst and Young and every company will be presented with up to five (5) CVs per position advertised. Companies also have an opportunity to educate the general public on the internal career offerings of their organisations and also use the opportunity to market their values to the outside world.

Job Seekers: A one-stop event to interact with potential employers with an objective of securing employment and acquiring further knowledge about some of these companies. Job seekers who are short listed in the process will be scheduled for their preliminary interviews, while those with no specific appointments stand the chance of securing interview appointment upon submitting their CVs.

Academic Institutions: This event provides a ready forum for academic institutions to market their programmes designed to attract Ghanaians with the desire of taking up undergraduate, graduate and professional programmes. This open forum also gives institutions the opportunity to interact with prospective applicants in situations where personal contact becomes an advantage. The first 2 days of this 3 day event will be dedicated to students and academic institutions. It is expected to attract about 10,000 prospective applicants.

Students:

Career Destinations will also help students understand the requirements and opportunities for further academic progression available with the view to simplify the processes involved in school search and application. This will be facilitated by the unique platform for interaction that the event will create for the various stakeholders in education.
