The prices of some foodstuffs at market centres in Accra recorded marginal increases on Friday compared to the previous week’s levels, while others remained unchanged, a GNA market survey has shown.
At the Nima market, for instance, one “olonka” of maize which sold at GH¢ 4.00 last week has gone up to GH¢ 4.50p, whereas an “olonka” of gari which also went for GH¢ 4.00 last week remained the same.
The survey also revealed an “olonka” of local rice which was sold at GH¢ 8.00 last week now sold GH¢ 9.00.
The price of wheat remained at last week’s price of GH¢ 9.00, just as an “olonka” of tomatoes which was sold at GH¢ 10.00 the previous week still remained the same.
An “olonka” of beans which went for GH¢ 6.00 last week sold at GH¢ 7.00 on Friday, whiles an "olonka" of pepper remained at GH¢ 7.00
A small gallon of both palm nut oil and vegetable cooking oil which was sold at GH¢ 6.00 last week has also increased to GH¢ 7.00 and GH¢ 6.50 respectively.
Commodities prices at the Adabraka market exhibited the same pattern. A bunch of plantain that sold at GH¢ 15.00 last week, went for GH¢ 17.00 on Friday.
Madam Jane Asare, a tomato seller at the market said the price of a bucket tomatoes had increased from GH¢ 12.00 to GH¢ 14.00 over the week.
A bucket of garden eggs and that of okro, however, remained at last week’s price of GH¢ 7.00.
A tuber of yam (“Puna”) that sold for GH¢ 6.00, GH¢ 4.00, GH¢ 3.00 and GH¢ 2.00 last week, depending on their sizes, had gone up to GH¢ 7.00, GH¢ 5.00, GH¢ 4.00, and GH¢ 3.00 correspondingly.
However, an olonka of groundnut and that of millet which went for GH¢ 10.00 and GH¢ 3 respectively the previous week, remained unchanged as at Friday.
