Commodity prices increase in Koforidua

Prices of commodities have risen in Koforidua markets as compared to prices some few weeks ago.

According to a Ghana News Agency survey conducted in both the Juaben Serwa and other satellite markets in Koforidua, prices of foodstuff such as maize, onion, pepper, tomatoes, cassava, yam, cocoyam, garlic and garden eggs have gone up.

With the exception of okro, which dropped from GH¢600.00 to GH¢300.00 a basket, the prices of other foodstuff went up as a result of which patronage has also fallen according to the market women who responded to the survey.

Madam Mercy Obuor, an onion seller, said the price of a sack of onion had risen from GH¢170.00 to GH¢350.00.

She said various types of items like bawku, garimi and agadas are now sold between GH¢350.00, GH¢450.00 and GH¢460.00 per bag.

Ms Freda Nketia, who sells imported maize for popcorn, said a sack of 25 kilogrammes of the item has risen from GH¢90.00 to GH¢130.00.

She said because the maize is the preferred choice for producing popcorn, the market is good.
