Construction work on 17-million-Ghana-Cedi nine-kilometre Nkawkaw-Atibie Road, being undertaken by Sonitra Construction Limited, is progressing steadily.

The road, being financed by the government, is one of the access roads to a number of communities on the Kwahu Ridge, and was awarded on contract in 2012, but work commenced in July 2014, due to delay in clearance.

It is expected to be completed in January 2016, if funds are released on schedule.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Asona near Nkawkaw, after inspecting work on the road, the Material Engineer of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) in charge of the project, who is also a consultant to the project, Mr Elorm Anku, said construction on U drains and box covers are progressing steadily.

He said the road would be asphalted, whiles concrete ridge pavement would be constructed at the sharp curve portions of the road.

Mr Anku disclosed that over 30 percent of work on the road have been done, and appealed to motorists and pedestrians, to co-operate with the contractor to enable him complete the project on schedule.

He gave the assurance that the necessary safety measures would be put in place for the road to be used during the Easter festivities, to ease traffic congestion on the other roads.

This, he said, would enable more people to travel to their various communities on the Kwahu Ridge, to participate in the Easter activities.

The project manager of Sonitra, Mr Nisiam Zahavi, commended the people in the area, for their co-operation and hospitality, and gave the assurance to complete the project on schedule.
