A police officer and a driver in a GCB Bank Bullion Van lost their lives in a head-on collision at Affram Plains South District of the Eastern region.
Thirty other passengers sustained injuries while those in critical condition are being treated at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
According to the deputy spokesperson of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Inspector Gideon Boateng, the accident occurred Wednesday at about 9:45am. The van with registration Number GN 8556-15 was being driven by Paul Koranteng together with three other persons on board including two Police personnel – Nathaniel Afriyie Marfo and Frederick Addai – on Special duty from Nkawkaw to Donkorkrom.
He said on reaching a section of the Kwahu Tafo-Adawso road the vehicle veered off its lane into the opposite direction and got involved in a head-on collision with a Mercedes Benz bus with registration Number GT 724 F.
The injured passengers were rushed to Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie, however, G/Cpl. Nathaniel Afriyie Marfo together with the GCB Bank driver Koranteng were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Their bodies have since been deposited at the morgue.
