Obuasi, April 13, GNA- An Obuasi-based corn miller who attempted to cheat the Electoral Commission (EC) by registering at two different registration centres with two different names during the voters' registration exercise, was on Tuesday jailed 12 months in hard labour by the Obuasi circuit court.

Alex Gadzi, 32, first registered at the Obuasi Day Care Centre with the name Alex Essiedu before appearing at the Obuasi circuit court centre for another registration on March 20.

The accused had earlier lied to the registration officials when the indelible ink exposed him. His reason was that his first registration coupon had gotten lost, hence the second registration. Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Cyril Ackom told the court, presided over by Justice E. A. Asante that Gadzi went to the Obuasi circuit court centre to register.

The prosecutor said after his name had been written in the register, it was detected that his left thumb had already been marked with the indelible ink.

This drew suspicion and when Gadzi was questioned he affirmed that he had already registered at the Obuasi day care centre but had lost his registration coupon.

DSP Ackom said not satisfied with the explanation, the accused was arrested by the registration officials and sent to the Obuasi Central Police station where investigations revealed that Gadzi registered at the Day Care centre with a different name.
