Some 75 major markets across all 18 districts in the Volta region would undergo a mass fumigation exercise on Saturday April 4, 2020.
The exercise which is spearheaded by Zoomlion Ghana forms part of a nationwide exercise to disinfect major markets in the country against the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.
At a media briefing on Thursday at the VRCC, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, said the exercise will be done in collaboration with the security agencies, and urged the public to take note and comply accordingly.
He said, “We appeal to our market women to please adhere to this directive since it will be in our own interest.”
Dr. Letsa also indicated that workers of Zoomlion, who would travel from outside the region to undertake the exercise would be screened and tested.
“Yes I can tell you confidently that we have put in a lot of measures to test the workers who will come and help in the fumigation exercise, so there are no fears,” he added.
Though there have been rumours of confirmed cases in the region in recent times, the Volta region has not recorded any case of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Blood samples of all 15 suspected cases have so far tested negative at the Noguchi Memorial Institute in Accra; as confirmed by the Deputy Regional Director of Public Health, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto.
