Coronavirus: Adhere to WHO safety protocols – GITAC

The Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber (GITAC) has urged Ghanaians, Indians and the world to adhere to the World Health Organisations' safety protocols in order to stop the spread of Coronavirus pandemic after Ghana recorded 24 confirmed cases with one death.

As at 22 March 2020, latest report from World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed a total of 234 073 confirmed cases, 9840 deaths globally.

According to the President of Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber, Mr. Dominic Oduro-Antwi, it is in the best interest of individuals and nations to comply with safety measures prescribed by WHO.

Speaking to Class FM's Jerry Akornor on Sunday, 22 March 2020 in Accra, Mr Oduro-Antwi said; "Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber wishes to caution the people of Ghana and across the globe on the dangers of the deadly COVID-19, which is taking thousands of lives. GITAC cautions Ghanaians, Indians and the world to adhere to WHO prescribed safety measures in the fight against Coronavirus".

He also lauded proactive measures taken by President Akufo-Addo to stop the spread of the novel Coronavirus in Ghana.

Akufo-Addo placed an embargo on public gatherings, funerals, festivals, religious services, political rallies, schools, conferences amidst passage of Imposition of Restrictions Bill into law to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

Mr. Oduro-Antwi said "the Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber commends President Akufo-Addo for his brave and proactive measures towards protection, safety and well-being of the country. Government's ban on public gatherings is laudable and a step in the right direction".

The Government has also announced the closure of the Kotoka International Airport’s VIP lounge to all diplomatic missions, international organisations and honorary consulates, as part of measures to control the spread of the coronavirus.
