The Infectious Disease Specialist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) Dr. Elizabeth Agyare has advised Ghanaians not to be scared of the deadly coronavirus but rather exercise some caution to prevent themselves from being affected

She said all one has to do is to be very cautious and adhere to all the necessary protocols but not to be afraid to the extent that residents cannot go about our normal duties.

“If you’re an individual who likes buying things from the market daily, then you need to learn how to buy things in bulk and reduce the number of times you visit the market. If you’ve nothing important to do in town, stay home”. She admonished

When asked what are the common signs of COVID-19, she said common colds, running nose, fever, high temperature plus others are a few of them.

“If you’re between 35 and 40 years, and have done checkups and all is well, then you can repeat every 2 years but if there is a problem, then you can arrange with your doctor as to what to do”. She stressed.

The number of deaths recorded in Ghana as a result of the virus increased to eight as of today April 11, 2020.

Announcing the latest development, the Ghana Health Service said “As of 10 April 2020, 23:00 HRS, a total of 27,346 persons have been tested with 408 being positive for COVID-19. The breakdown of the 408 positive cases are as follows: four (4) have been treated, discharged and have tested negative, 394 cases have been categorised as mild disease on treatment, two (2) moderate to severe cases, none currently on ventilators and eight (8) have died”.

“Of the 408 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 205 were reported from the routine surveillance, 88 from enhanced surveillance activities and 115 from travellers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale”. The statement added

According to the Ghana Health Service, regions that have recorded confirmed cases stand at eight namely Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Northern, North East, Upper East and Upper West regions.
