The South Africa Airways (SAA), Africa’s most awarded airline, in collaboration with Ecobank Ghana, the Pan African bank has launched a new credit card to promote easy transactions for customers

The MasterCard called the SAA Voyager Credit card, which comes in two forms, the Gold and the Platinum was launched in Accra of Friday, July 31.

The product, which is accessible to both customers and non-customers of Ecobank would among other things allow holders to enjoy special benefits when travelling on the SAA flights all over the continent apart from paying for transactions.

Among the benefits, the card allows the customer an extra luggage on an SAA flight in addition to a 10 per cent discount on payment for an excess baggage.

The introduction of the first co-branded credit cards in Ghana was in response to the existing market needs, following in-depth research.

Suretha Cruse, SAA Executive for Customer Loyalty said at the launch in Accra on Friday that the customer value proposition of SAA reflected its confidence in Africa and its resolve to become Africa’s leading world-class loyalty programme.

“The SAA Voyager Gold and Platinum MasterCard Credit Cards would be the catalyst for African growth, strengthening the landscapes for two iconic African leaders within our respective industries in Ghana and across the continent,” she said.

Mr Samuel Ashitey Adjei, Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana said the introduction of the co-branded credit cards was in line with the banks resolve to continually employ technology and relevant strategic partnerships for introducing new products.

“Accepted on the MasterCard network in over 220 million shops and businesses in over 210 countries, the SAA Voyager Credit Card is by far the fastest way to earn miles with a ticket purchase to fly on South African Airways or make qualified merchant purchases,” he said.

He explained that the Card also provides its holder access to the various benefits which include, extended warranty from selected shops and manufacturers, purchase protection and privilege access to more than 500 airport VIP lounges worldwide.

He gave the assurance that Ecobank would continue to introduce more market-friendly digital financial services innovations, especially in the credit card space to provide enhanced user experience, convenience and reliability.

The Card provides safe and secured payments for customers travelling abroad and offers cardholders with up to 45 days interest free period, access to monthly electronic statements and competitive interest rates among others.

It also has a three-year lifespan which is automatically renewable on expiry unless otherwise stopped by the customer.

Non Ecobank customers would access the product with specific conditions attached.
