DVLA to procure drivers’ licenses in two weeks from July

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it will in July have the capacity to produce drivers’ licenses within two weeks.

The delays in the time it takes to procure drivers’ licenses have led to the soaring activities of illegal contractors known in local parlance as the “Goro boys”.

The situation has also opened the floodgate for some unscrupulous persons trading in fake Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority [DVLA] certificates and stickers in the system because of the bureaucratic and difficulty in obtaining drivers’ licenses.

But the Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Noble John Apiah told Accra-based Citi FM that the reduction in the time it takes to procure the licence will help check the activities of the “Goro boys” and also help smoothen transaction at the authority.

“…from July 15, it won’t more than two weeks to for any Ghanaian who is going through all the process to get a drivers license, because we’ve got the capacity, the solution for it, the material and equipment so that once you go through the driving test and you’ve done all the biometrics and others it won’t take more than two weeks to get the license. It is something we’ve committed ourselves to do and we’ve made the promise and we’ll stick to that,”
