Daasebre to unveil Ghana’s economic model

The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng is set to unveil GHANA’s r-BED ECONOMIC MODEL COMPACT which has been concluded to pre-test the globally-pioneered r-BED economic model in two regions in Ghana as Ghana’s Home-Grown Economic Development Model.

This comes in the wake of the successful global promotion of the model concept paper dubbed: Root-Based Economic Development(r-BED) model at the 79th session of the UN International Civil Service Commission in Rome to build global consensus behind the r-BED model as the New Theme Model for Africa and the developing world.

The model is premised on harnessing the potential of the Middle-Class Leadership space in the developing world to build a Mass-oriented, self-Reliant and Citizen-Driven integrated Communal Development regime. The ultimate purpose is to build enduring, sustainable and well-secured Local Economies as a hedge against the fragility of the Top-Down Macro-Economic Growth regime.

The Root-Based Economic Development (r-BED) Model is a joint intellectual endeavour between Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng and Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, a development expert. The Model is currently being promoted under a new institutional establishment dubbed: OTI BOATENG-AZONGO DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (OB-ADI). The current initiative was originally presented at the World Forum of Academics in Cambridge University, England, in August, 2010 and the same year presented to the UN Secretary-General to influence a new global development order known then as the Root-Based Model. The initial presentation received the recognition of high-profile institutions across the world as a bold attempt to register an African creative intellectual footprint in global development. Disclosing this to the media, Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, A development consultant and joint partner in the r-BED model concept said, they were inspired by the overwhelming interest generated by the r-BED model concept paper amongst high-profile frontline development institutions across the world, particularly within the UN Common system to roll-out the implementation compact to pre-test the model in Ghana. According to Azongo, key inputs were gathered from key global leaders in development after the presentation in Rome including prominent Ghanaians such as Dr. Evelyn Anita Stokes-Hayford, Ghana’s ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to FAO, WFP and IFAD and Cardinal Appiah Turkson, which occasioned a review to reflect wider consensus to inform Ghana’s r-BED Model Compact. In the words of Azongo, Daasebre is poised to make the r-BED model, Ghana’s most enduring global intellectual legacy and would urge all Ghanaians to embrace the initiative, particularly at this point in Ghana’s development, where the search for new ideas to propel national development has become such an urgent necessity.

According to Azongo, as part of arrangements to elicit stakeholder support to implement the model in the country, Daasebre would be presenting the model concept paper to strategic stakeholders particularly the media, corporate Ghana, Chieftaincy and Government upon his arrival in the country to enlist nationwide support to implement the Ghana r-BED model Compact in two regions. Two regions which reflect the diverse geographical and cultural character of Ghana would be selected to pre-test the model for global adoption as Ghana remains singularly the Model-setting for this global pioneering campaign to change the face of development towards greater realism.

The Root-Based Economic Development (r-BED) Model is a systemic integrated communal development model utilizing time-tested indigenous institutions of governance and internalized community support systems to build self-secured local economies. E OF BOOK: The r-BED model is theoretical based on a Three-Pronged Integrated Model framework for determining the scope of Community Development Planning to attain greater implementation efficiency, Holistic planning and a Sustainable-Exit-Route (SER) for external interveners including government in the communal development space.
