The Management of Dangote Cement in Tema has decided to pay off 17 workers who were dismissed by the company after they went on a demonstration.

Dangote is not budging despite interventions from the Union of Industry, Commerce, and Finance Workers, (UNICOF), to get the 17 reinstated.

The Logistics officer at Dangote Cement, Kwadwo Adomson, who is one of the affected sacked workers told STARR BUSINESS’ Europa Taylor in an interview that Dangote has called them to come for their last cheques. “They are paying us off,” he said, adding that the administrative unit of the company has asked them to return all items and documents belonging to the firm.

Mr. Adomson said the sacked workers are disappointed with UNICOF’s failure to help them out despite eleven months of negotiations.

“We believe that UNICOF has failed us…honestly speaking, I know nothing good will come out of this thing. Management has made their decision and that is it.”
