Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - The Management of Deloitte & Touche, Ghana on Thursday presented a cheque of 10 million cedis to the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) towards the publication of a monograph on cardiovascular diseases.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Forson, Chairman of Deloitte & Touche, Ghana, said the donation was in response to an appeal by the UGMS for assistance in the publication of a monograph titled: "Cardiovascular Diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: The Ghana Paradigm."
Mr Forson said his company recognised the immense contribution that the publication of the work would make to the diagnosing, treatment and prevention of heart diseases and further pledged to make a personal donation of 10 million cedis towards the project.
Receiving the cheque, Professor Aaron Lante Lawson, Dean of UGMS, said the money would hasten efforts by the School to make research on cardiovascular diseases widely available to the general population and also create awareness within the medical profession.
Professor Joseph Pobee, main author of the monograph, said the time had come to disseminate data on the emerging problem of cardiovascular diseases, adding that although there had been journal reports and contributions to books, "we need to have a monograph capturing our work in one whole".
