Digital Corp. applauds govt over use of technology to fight coronavirus

The Digital Corp., a group of digital writers and techpreneurs, has commended the government of Ghana for using digital technology in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced that the team of health workers who are partaking in the enhanced testing for COVID-19 are using digital technology to transmit results of the laboratory tests.

He explained that the Vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been leading the efforts to put in place the digital platforms which makes it easier for the field health workers to transmit the lab results in real-time.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said: “The Vice President chairs daily monitoring meetings that bring in more data. He has also been leading the efforts to put in place a digital platform that allows those who are doing contact tracing to share with us the data on what is happening in real time on the ground and connect it to those who are running samples in the labs.”

Reacting to this in a statement issued by a Director of Digital Corp, Kelly Nii Lartey Mensah on Tuesday, the group said : “We commend the government for using digital technology in the fight against COVID-19. COVID-19 is novel as we all know it hence we need an enhanced technology to deal with it.

“We are in a digital era where the world relies on technology to solve mankind’s problems. Ghana is no exception and so we will like commend the government for the efforts to use technology in this fight.”

The statement further urged all other institutions that play frontline riles in the fight against the pandemic to enhance their use of technology, especially when churning out information on the issue.

This, the statement, said” will help in dealing with the apprehension and anxiety among the Ghanaians public who may be affected with fake and negative news about the COVID-19.”
