The Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has assured workers of the Ghana Dock Labour Company of improved working conditions and a prompt resolution of issues confronting their pension scheme arrangements.

Ghana Dock Labour Company is one of the main suppliers of labour to the port authority and the most of the agencies in the shipping business.

However, in recent times there has arisen some seeming misunderstanding between the workers of the Dock Labour Company and its management. Hence, as one of the principal shareholders of the Ghana Dock labour Company, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority always steps in to ensure that the Dock labour company operates successfully and efficiently.

In line with this interest, the Director General of GPHA, Paul Asare Ansah and one of his Deputies, the Director of Tema Port, Edward Osei paid a visit to the Dock Labour Company to interact with management and staff in a bid to resolve some of their issues particularly regarding their pensions and remunerations.

The workers complained about low wages and non-payment of SSNIT contributions by the company’s management.

Paul Ansah recognised the immense contributions the workers of the dock labour company play in the port industry and assured immediate steps will be taken to improve their conditions of service.

The Director of Tema Port, Edward Osei who also steps in as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Dock Labour Company following the exit of the former Director of Port of Tema Jacob Adorkor who was the chair of the company’s Board assured the workers, he will critically look into the concerns that had been raised by the workers.
