Dismissed NOPL workers to be compensated

Ewusiejo (W/R), Nov 15, GNA - The over 500 dismissed workers of the National Oil Palm Limited (NOPL) now Norpalm Limited in the Ahanta West District are to be compensated soon.

Their entitlement have been worked out and forwarded to the office of the President by the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, for action.

Mr Samuel Jonfiah, the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West and Mr A. E. Amoah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Mpohor Wassa East, broke the news to the dismissed workers at an emergency meeting at Ewusiejo at the weekend.

A letter from the office of the President dated October 20, 2004 and signed by the Chief Director, Mr C. A. Atiemo, which acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Western Regional Minister, was read to them.

The letter assured the workers that payment of their compensation was receiving attention of the President.

Mr S. B. K. Arthur and Mr Samuel Asahene, spokesmen of the dismissed workers, commended President Kufuor for his sympathy and prompt action on their plight.

They said as soon as their wrongful dismissal got to President Kufuor about two years ago, he immediately ordered the setting up of a committee to go into their grievances.

The spokesmen said the letter from the office of the President has given them abundant hope that the hardship they have gone through for the past 12 years would soon come to an end.
