Domestic airlines in Ghana have resumed operations at the Kotoka International Airport after days of cancelling flights due to the harsh harmattan weather.
As a result of the foggy weather, culminating in poor visibility, the airlines cancelled flights from Accra to Kumasi and the Northern regional capital, Tamale.
Speaking to Starrfmonline.com on Friday, the Manager of Corporate Communications of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Eric Amaning, said Africa World Airlines has begun its afternoon schedule.
He said the flights resumed because “the weather is clear.” Amaning, however, added the resumption is interim since AWA is only operating its Kumasi route.
However, the other domestic airlines including Starbow are yet to resume operation.
Several passengers were stranded at the airport last week as a result of the cancellation. The hazy weather also left Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur stranded at the Airforce airstrip when he was scheduled to fly to the Upper East region for the National Farmers’ Day celebrations.
