Farmers have been advised to form registered co-operatives for easier access to financial assistance from agriculture-oriented financial institutions.

Mr Gordon Asubonteng, Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive, gave the advice on Thursday during an address of a mini durbar organised by the chiefs and people of Duasidan in the Brong Ahafo Region, as part of a day’s working visit to four farming communities in the Dormaa Central Municipality.

It was to interact with the chiefs and people to seek their concerns on socio-economic development issues and how best government through the Municipal Assembly could address them.

The other communities visited were Atesikrom, Yawbofokrom and Tweapiase.

The MCE cited tomato farming as becoming the most preferred farming occupation after poultry in the Dormaa area, and advised the farmers to strategise for higher productivity and maximise returns, that would improve their livelihoods.

He also urged the people to desist from consuming the carcass of dead monkeys and bats which were prevalent in the locality to avoid contracting the Ebola viral disease.

Mr Asubonteng appealed to cocoa farmers to make judicious use of fertilizers supplied by government and refrain from diverting or selling same since those practices tended to make the government unpopular.

Touching on the government, the MCE appealed to the people to retain the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in power to enable it to continue with the good works it had started in the Municipality.

He, therefore, asked the people to exercise restraint because government was committed and determined to change the situation for Ghanaians to enjoy a better socio-economic living conditions.

Nana Kyekyeku, Chief of Duasidan, appealed to the Municipal Assembly to extend electricity to the local primary and Junior High School in the area to enhance ICT education, and also requested for the provision of books to stock their library to inculcate reading among pupils and students in the community.
