Dr. Bawumia highlights 14 policy commitments under his presidency

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined 14 key policy commitments his administration will implement to ensure economic transformation and prosperity for all, if elected president in the December 7 polls.

Speaking to journalists during a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia highlighted the priority policy objectives, including institutionalising the “Gold for Oil” programme to anchor the Ghanaian currency (the Cedi), sustaining and expanding Ghana’s rebounding economy, creating new job opportunities, rolling-out tax reforms, and building Ghana into a world-class digital economy.

The NPP Flagbearer also mentioned plans to reduce the cost of living, expand public infrastructure, and provide better healthcare for the citizens.

Other commitments were to implement Affirmative Action Plan for women and girls, expand educational opportunities for the youth, ensure good governance and curb corruption, and care for the older people.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised the significance of environmental sustainability through licensing regime for small-scale miners, boosting sports infrastructural development, enhancing creative arts and tourism sector, and ensuring the country’s borders were secured from external aggressions.

He stated that the new tax reforms would create an environment conducive for business to grow and create jobs for the youth.

The NPP Flagbearer stated that digitalisation would be a cornerstone of his government’s strategy to drive Ghana’s development and increase employment opportunities for the youth.

Dr Bawumia noted that one of his administration’s immediate priorities was to take bold decisions early to make significant impact on his economic transformation agenda.

Dr Bawumia reiterated his commitment to run a campaign focused on ideas and ensure that the NPP conducted itself in a manner befitting a democratic group.

He urged those threatening “brimstone and fire” to reconsider their actions and thus reminded them that such actions were un-Ghanaian.

More than 200 journalists and media practitioners drawn from the 16 regions took part in the media engagement and asked questions that bothered on some promises outlined in the NPP 2024 Election Manifesto and actions undertaken by the ruling government since it assumed power in 2017 to date.

The media engagement follows the successful launch of the Party’s Manifesto on Sunday, August 18,2024, in Takoradi in the Western Region.
