NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to address the impasse between the Energy Commission and traders of imported used electrical gadgets which puts the country at a risk of being turned into a hub for electronic waste.
Talks have been ongoing to ban the importation of used electronic appliances despite resistance from the dealers.
Addressing traders at Lapaz, one of the popular markets for used gadgets, as part of his campaign tour of the Okaikoi Central, North and South Constituencies, Dr Bawumia assured the traders of solving the issue while pledging to introduce a tax regime that will bring relief to traders.
Dr. Bawumia was met by an ecstatic crowd who cheered to welcome him to the Okaikoi Central and North where he engaged stakeholders at Apenkwa. He then made quick stops at the Abeka market, Lapaz and New Market. He also paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu who prayed for him to be victorious in his campaign to the Presidency.
Dr. Bawumia later held stakeholders meetings at Nii Boi Town and a combined community connect campaign at Abrantie Spot at Lapaz. At both engagements, Dr Bawumia sold his “Bold Solutions” to the crowd.
He said concerns of traders such as the proposed ban on used electrical gadgets will be addressed. He also pledged to remove the import tax on mobile phones.
The MP for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah in a remark urged the electorate to vote for a future of possibilities, stressing that the NPP has achieved a lot in the last few years.
The campaign trail moves to Constituencies in Tema and its environs.
